We are currently short staffed for a certain time slot so boss asked people to volunteer. However, if they don’t get enough responses we would do a rotating schedule. I’m not able to work that shift due to having to pick up my son from his grandmother’s house plus having to pump breast milk at a certain time when we get home.

Should I let my boss know I won’t be available for the rotating schedule and possibly get some backlash or just wait and see what happens?

So far only 2 people have responded to volunteer which is not going to cover all the shifts needed so I’m nervous.
