I don’t envy the cop who has to try and take a sword from someone who can teleport behind you.

I love the government announcing things that were already crimes are still crimes.

It was illegal to own one? I understand using it or carrying in public, but literally owning one???

Carrying it in public can mean literally displaying it in your front yard in many jurisdictions, so I don’t really agree with your assessment.

Katana are for courtyards; front yards should be festooned with the bamboo pikes of the ashigaru

for self defense i’d give a very maybe. nobody is gonna try to rob a person who has a sword and the thing is not exactly hideable

also a sword… for hunting? that’ll make the person wielding the sword in more danger than the animals themselves

Wouldn’t this be racist or similar? Owning a Japanese sword is illegal, but what about a European sword or an English sword?

actually you’re being racist because not all japanese swords are ninja swords /s

yeah unless they prohibit every kind of sword equally (and give enough time for everyone to somehow get rid of theirs) it’s kinda being racist

Great, what the fuck do they expect me to do when my kids are playing outside and get rushed by 30-50 feral Ikko-Ikki?

This ban is in response to a large number of teenagers harming and killing each other with mall ninja shit in the UK. It’s been legal for adults to purchase and own them in their own homes, but the sellers have not been diligent, so children are buying them anyway, hence the ban.

Look up “zombie knife” if you want visual examples, but know that generally the blades are real and not blunt for decoration as a reasonable person might expect.

The ban doesn’t apply to historical items (which these are not) or legitimate uses (of which these have none).

Disclaimer: I don’t live in the UK

legitimate uses (of which these have none).

The intended “use” is generally decorational, so I guess whether that’s legitimate depends on how tacky you think it is.

The blades are real and not blunt for decoration as a reasonable person might expect.

I have a decorational blade and while the edges are certainly not sharp, it would absolutely result in a lot of bleeding to get hit by it. I have seen some blades that have blunter edges than mine has, but even then it would still be dangerous as a blunt weapon, although no more so than a baseball bat, golf club, or some other form of “sports stick”.

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Would a naginata be okay? It’s a polearm, not a sword.

What about a tanto, which is really more of a dagger?
