And get Vance instead? If that’s not an insurance then I don’t know what is haha.

It’s a small concession ahead of talks with Trump. This gesture has a monetary value and therefore a meaning.
Those failed Linux moves happened because governments are cheap and defer entire digitisation to municipalities and other local forms of government. It’s like there’s no planning of anything anymore („free market will solve everything”). It sounds ridiculous but even effing North Korea knows better.
If they were serious about it they’d hire couple of dozen open source software contributors first, do a small scale trial run where you iron out the kinks and submit patches where necessary and only then roll this out to regular govt clerks.
You can’t expect projects running on a shoestring budget to provide you with commercial grade solutions. Of course if you hire a big corpo that will promise you everything above but those somehow always turn out to be scams.
My guess they recognise they lack visibility: People think there are no alternatives to big tech but other than hardware we’re not that dependent, especially in software. It’s a matter of switching to local or open alternatives which are ready now.
I haven’t encountered a case where they’d be outright lying and the guy who runs it looks reasonably sane which is a high bar these days. I use multiple sources from different sides because the most common type of manipulation is omission of certain details and I think everyone is a bit guilty of that.
Rule of law crisis is a complex topic and I think it was handled well here, especially for someone without prior knowledge. They could go a bit more in-depth but then they’d be risking covering decades of spats between Tusk and Kaczyński.
The way I understood it that he’s outsider in his own circles, like you have people who aren’t necessarily team players but their other contributions merit keeping them close. The article doesn’t dwell on it and I lack local context so thank you for providing it.
I didn’t mean Nebula would be the answer but many Nebulas that would do better or worse based on their own decisions rather than everyone being beholden to a single corporate overlord.
I tried it some time ago. No algorithm behind it so if someone wasn’t already watching random Wikipedia pages this won’t make them do it.
Agreed, but I also wouldn’t mind if someone tried to work on an algorithm that would be entertaining while also being more beneficial to society. I don’t think it’s impossible to do and maybe people would be more okay with that as a replacement rather than having them quit cold turkey.
In all honesty I don’t understand how PeerTube is supposed to scale with users once it gets content. Hosting, transcoding and streaming video is super expensive. There’s also a matter of making money from videos and without financial incentive it’ll be hard to compete with commercial solutions (in a capitalist hellholes that most of us live in). Community funding can keep up with hosting text but can barely keep up with hosting pictures, let alone something more, unless you’re an internet archive or something.
People who are on Nebula already made it in Youtube and they’re so big that they just want to make more money. They provide nice service for the money but I don’t think they will come support your revolution for free.
Protecting interests of American businesses, possibly ideological although bribery could be involved too. Trump has been consistent on tariffs for nearly 50 years so it’s safe to assume it’s one of his few core beliefs that’s not as easily affected by his other personality issues.
I’m fairly sure they are speaking of recognising territory belonging to a certain country. For example, US doesn’t recognise Palestine while plenty of the world does. Trump as a president can definitely shape US foreign policy like that.
[edit] I just realised the next step is Google Maps displaying that Crimea belongs to Russia for everyone regardless of location because that’s how US rolls these days lol.
