My prediction is that Silksong will be a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title or something similar.
Power to them. I’m sure Hollow Knight made them all independently wealthy. I’d be hard pressed to bother to work too hard, too.
There’s a beta test branch on Steam that was uploaded 5 months ago, and the game has been age rated in South Korea. Yes, that game is coming. For good reason, it’s also the belle of the ball when it comes to marketing deals, so as much as it’s a meme to say maybe it’s at the next Nintendo Direct, it might be at the next Nintendo Direct. For everyone’s sake, I hope it gets its release date soon so that we can stop talking about it.
If it was at the direct, they would have rolled with the “teasers” that people invented
Six years of hype, it never going to live up too. Team Cherry did this to themselves.
It is hard to make a sequel to the best game of all time, unless it is the new best game of all time. I’m not sure the extended dev time is the dominant issue here.
It doesn’t have to be the best game of all time. It just has to be at least as good as Hollow Knight.
I just don’t see it happening at this point. I hope they prove me wrong but my intention is telling me it’ll be at most 7/10.
That title seems like it is intended to sound extremely derogatory / condescending
GamesRadar has been pushing these “but where gam?” articles for some time. It started right after silksong was delayed past the original hollow knight dev time. They seem utterly convinced silksong will be vaporware, or (more likely) it drives plenty of clicks complaining.
I wasn’t aware of that.
It was way more obvious back when team cherry went radio silence (circa 2022?) - and on some level I can understand “we’re game journalists, no one gets a pass” targeting a heavily delayed game, but I’m admittedly one of those fans that have no problem giving Cherry whatever time they need. I’m in no rush.
I want them to take all the time they need. The more time in the oven, the better.
Only as long as it’s not in the oven so long due to mismanagement and constantly changing direction.
See: Duke Nukem Forever
Team cherry is like 4 people, I’m confident that’s not a problem.
It could be the sudden and unexpected success of Hollow Knight paralyzing them the way that happened with Valhiem. Not that it’s necessarily a fault of the devs; you hit a huge success like that, there is now a weight on your shoulder to always be that good.
This could be, hollow knight is one hell of a bar to clear. Valhiem was a lesson that studios are hard to scale up, and doing it distracts from development. There’s also something to be said about making a dream project, then having the focus and drive to keep it going and expanding.
Annd It’s possible their main dev might be addicted to balatro and there’s no way to factor or predict that kind of impact.
Development on your game being delayed because you’re too busy playing another game is perfectly fair.
I can’t be mad at that. xD
Ohh uh yeah good point.
I didn’t check, but I’d guess it’s the same small group of people who made the first one.
Maybe at this point they are holding off to make it a switch 2 launch title.
are they still working on it? yes? then it will come out when it comes out. There’s enough content in my backlog to keep me occupied for another 5 years at least, and more new games release every day. I can wait.
I mean… basically every platform is calling it an “upcoming game”. I want to say even fricking Nintendo have put it in a few sizzle reels?
Yes, it is a scientific fact that acknowledging Silksong adds at least another week until it releases. But it is also THE biggest indie game out there.
Let them cook.
